Turning One is....Not So Much Fun!

First of all, let me explain without sounding boastful. C is a delightful child. Rarely fussy, always happy, giggling and playing either independently or with others. We often hear the comment, "Does he ever cry? He's so happy!"
Well, we have come to the conclusion that this happy baby who never cries does not like birthdays. I completely understand... I don't particularly enjoy them myself anymore. But this was his first birthday. The birthday on which he was allowed to dive his entire face into a whole frosted cake and then joyfully eat and eat and eat the delicious sweet stuff that he had rarely been able to enjoy until now.
He wasn't quite sure about the candles.
And the cake certainly did not bring him birthday joy.

The previous photos were from a party we had for him and his cousin Nate over the past weekend. There were quite a few people present, as it was a combined party. Lots of family and friends. The adults and other children had a ball. Cooper... not so much. Well... honestly, the crowd, the noise, all the kids running around..... he was just overwhelmed.... out of sorts... not himself. That had to be it.

So... we tried it again. This time on his actual birthday, November 5th. M helped me bake and decorate a new cake for the special occasion. This time, C was going to have a blast, we just knew it!

Uh oh... there's that funny looking thing on fire again...
And the cake... just not his thing.

C did enjoy opening up all of his gifts and playing with all the new toys, but the candle and cake and singing "Happy Birthday," he'd rather do without.
We'll try it again next year!

Halloween '08

Our jack-o-lanterns... M and I prefer silly, while K (and C) go for scary.
Our costumes for last weekend's Halloween party. Argh!

Keeping with tradition, Alex, Aubrey and Dylan came to our neighborhood to trick-or-treat with M and C.

Aren't these the cutest little pirates you've ever seen? C kept the hat on for about as long as it took me to take this picture.
